Suzanne Anzellotti- Artist of the Month

I became interested in drawing when I was about 5 or 6 because my sister is an artist .   I took classes at the Butler Institute when I was young and had every Art class possible at Boardman High School.

I Majored in Art at Miami U., Oxford OH and graduated with a BFA with printmaking as my specialty. After college some friends and I went to NYC and lived in Greenwich Village. We actually saw Allen Ginsberg at a party. The Village was alive with Artists, writers and folk singers  at that time. It was very exciting.

I worked for a cartoonist doing preliminary sketching  and   research.  Back in Youngstown I worked as an illustrator at Strouss’ department store for several years.

I spent ten years out of Art while raising my three children and then needed to take some classes at Youngstown State U. to become current in graphic design. Susan Russo was my very helpful teacher at this time.

I had a little design business in my home where I designed print ads and brochures.  In the early eighties I wanted to paint and there were many good watercolorists in N.E. Ohio who were teaching workshops. I have been working in that medium ever since.  I also do acrylics, mixed media and encaustic (wax painting).

I have taken countless workshops from regional and nationally known artists.  Some that stand out in my mind are Homer Hacker, Don Getz, Miles Batt, Louise Cadillac, Robert Burridge, Cathy Welner and Chris Leeper.
